We Think We Have Decisions to Make

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
Genesis 1:1-2

I hope that you will take a minute to pick up your Bible and read the first two chapters of Genesis today. We’ve heard the story of creation over and over, but I always wonder about the decisions that that God made during those six days when He created the earth.

Sometimes I just can’t help but wonder how He did it? How did God decide what to create? How did He decide what to include in this miracle we call life? How did He decide what to make and what not to make. How did He decide to put this world together the way He did?

It’s just amazing to me. How the earth was created so perfectly. How the sun rises at just the right time and how the moon takes over when the sun takes a much needed rest. It truly amazes me how God took the earth and made a man and took a rib and made a woman. How two creatures could be so different and yet so much alike?

I also wonder how people cannot believe. How can someone look at the earth – smell the flowers, feel the rain, hear the cry of a newborn child, share laughter with those they love and not know that everything on this earth came from something so much greater than any of us?

God’s mighty hand is all around us. In all that we see and all that we are. Pity the man who has no belief in everlasting life. Pity the man who mourns at a death when they think that is the end. Pity the man who doesn’t know Christ – who doesn’t know about everlasting life – or Grace – or Mercy – of the love that Christ surrounds us with.

The world must look pretty bland without the love of Christ wrapped around it. And life must be hopeless to those who don’t know that there is life better than we can imagine waiting for us.

Lord, thank you for hope. Thank you for the knowledge that the best is indeed yet to come. Thank you for providing your grace and mercy and love every day. Help us to see the miracles that you provide us every day. Keep our eyes focused on your blessings. Amen.

  1. For me, it's standing at the edge of the world and watching the waves roll in. How can anyone see that and not beleive that there is a Creator God who keeps everything moving just so.
    I really appreciate your blog.

  2. Thanks, Jan... The place that I hear God the very best is at the north end of Wrightsville Beach when the tide is out. It seems like He is standing on the shore looking at the water with me!
